Still, I should know better by now. I'm supposed to be the Avatar. What would I do without you to keep me out of trouble, Katara? [He smiles fondly as he leans on the bridge.] At least he doesn't know I'm the Avatar or what that means. Maybe Shikamaru could help, he's cool.

[This is a level of praise to which she is no longer accustomed and isn't sure she deserves.]

If I was doing a good job, I would have told you about Tobi when you first got here.

[It is also a level of praise Aang has grown used to dispensing regularly.]

It's not your fault, Katara. I'm the one who talked to him, and I'm the one who should have known better by now. You and Sokka have already helped me a lot with settling in and warning me about the Malnosso.

No, Aang, stop saying that. The last time I checked being the Avatar didn't give you magical murdering psychopath sensing abilities. I'll just have to make sure to let everyone know to avoid Tobi in the future, that's all.

You're right. That would be helpful. [He pauses] Maybe I can help warn people too. You shouldn't have to do all this yourself.

I don't know if warning everyone to stay away is the best idea, but... definitely everyone in the house. Besides, before we do anything, we should talk to Shikamaru.

[She puts her hand on Aang's shoulder.]

It'll be okay, Aang.

[The simple, warm touch helped to remind Aang of what he had left back home. He had decided he would be fine with this reversion to friendship for now. Still, little moments like this were starting to make him miss the way things were.]

Thanks. That sounds fine, Katara. Shikamaru knows more about this guy, and Sokka's good with plans. Something good has to come from all of us putting our heads together.

[Katara slid her hand off Aang's shoulder and nodded, although she's pretty sure she knows exactly what Sokka would say about this anyway. He wasn't exactly fond of her ninja friends.]

Let's see if he's around.

[She reached for her own journal and constructs another private filter.]

Shikamaru?

Here.

[It's a prompt response. He has a feeling he knows what this is about.]

Hey, we need to talk. Meet me by the middle bridge?

On my way, though I'm pretty far out. It might be a bit.

[So. If you don't like standing around awkwardly and want to change locations or something.]

[Katara glances at Aang.]

Do you want us to meet you halfway?

[Aang nods at her in approval.]

If you'd like. I should be at the rec center in fifteen minutes or so.

All right, we'll see you there.

[She shuts the book.]

Come on, Aang. I think you'll like the rec center.

[Katara's only been there like, three times in two years, but she still thinks he'll like it.]

Sure! You think so?

[She nods.]

There are some games in there that look like fun.

[And she starts walking.]

[Aang strolls alongside her.]

I like the sound of that! Feels like forever since the last time I've played a game. I wonder what kinds they have.

I'm not really sure... I've only played a few at Masaomi's birthday party.

He had a birthday? ...And a party? ...And you were there?

[She nods]

Yeah, it must have been almost a year ago.

[Huh, he must be due for another one soonish.]

His friend Mikado threw it for him. They're from the same world.

[...come to think of it, had Mikado even shown up to that? It seemed like he hadn't, and Masaomi had been weird about it. Hmm.]

It was a surprise party, actually. I was in charge of getting him there.

[Aang is always caught off guard when hearing about how much history Katara has in this world.]

That sounds nice. Parties are always fun! ...I didn't know you knew Masaomi that long. Still weird to think of the way time works here.

I met him a little after we first got here. He reminded me of my friend Sanji - his hair was blond then. [AND he was a shameless flirt.

You know what? Better to just get that out there.]

And they're both a little weird with girls.

[But she gives him a soft look when he mentions time. It is strange to think that she's known Shikamaru longer now, that she'd been with Aang... and she'd technically been friends with even Masaomi longer than she'd been with Aang. It didn't displace Aang's position in her heart, but it did make it... a little more crowded in the room nearest to it.]

[Something in that look makes her feel uneasy. He had felt weird over the idea of Katara being in this world for longer than they traveled during the war, but he had not yet fully considered the ramifications of this. The seeds were starting to be planted.]

That's really... something. [He pauses a bit as he considers Katara's latter comment.] What kind of weirdness is it?

It's kind of hard to describe until you see it yourself. They don't mean anything mean by it. But... like, Sanji, for example? He calls me Katara-chan. He calls practically every girl that, and Masaomi tried to at first as well. And Sanji does this thing where-

[she stops to try to properly demonstrate the 'mellorine' but it looks more like Aang and Sokka's spirit wiggle]

-he does this if he's really happy being around a girl. [She starts walking again.] And I'm pretty sure I've seen him produce actual hearts in his eyes.
