[He nods along with Aang's earlier statement - the few times they played, after he picked up on things, he thought Katara was good himself.]

Sure, if he wants. I could see if my sensei would be interested too, though he might not care to until he gets more used to things here.

[Aang is caught up enough in the moment that he overlooks Katara's reluctance.]

Yeah, either person would be fine! He's good at games too?

[Shikamaru actually tossed in Asuma because of that reluctance. Four people, between everyone named and not counting her. There's an out, if she really wants it. He's not that mean.

Even if it quietly bums him out.]

So long as it's not shogi. He gets really into them, though.

He sounds cool, too! Heh, I could learn all kinds of different games here.

That's right, you could, but... [her gaze shifted to Shikamaru, her mood sobering a little.] Is there anything else we need to do about Tobi?

Aa. Yeah, I was about to get back to him.

[Everyone on board again?]

[Aang guilty looks off to the side. Not the first time he lost himself to distraction; luckily Katara was around to ground them.]

Right. Tobi.

[Katara places her hand on Aang's shoulder for a moment, and nods to Shikamaru.]

[Nod.]

Remember what I said before? That we shinobi have specific loyalties?

Tobi has no such thing. He's what we call a missing-nin - a ninja that's deserted their country. More so, he and several ninja like him are part of a terrorist group called the Akatsuki.

To pull off our act, when we start warning people, it will be by alerting them to this group, not him specifically.

[The shoulder touch is another brief reminder of what he is missing. He gives her a smile before turning his attention to Shikamaru.]

So they're the ones who don't have honor... Those Akatsuki guys must be real bad. I can't say I'm the best planner, but your one sounds good so far. And if we can help you spread the word when the time comes, you'll just have to let us know.

[Your world sucks, Shikamaru.

But Katara just nods.]

And what about Aang? What do we do if Tobi tries to get in touch with him again after this?

[This is a friend of hers she would bleed and die for.]

It's possible he could. Aang, your powers are similar to a rare ability in my own world. He could attempt to make you an ally, or he might not have any interest.

[He has suggestions, but... he would like to hear what Aang thinks of this first.]

So he might not be interested in my powers. He is a really weird guy... and hard to even understand.

[He tries to think this over.]

What's the best thing I could do if he does try to come after me? ...Is there any way to trick him?

[...Katara is not so sure about using Aang in any sort of scheme involving someone as dangerous as Shikamaru says. She has full confidence in Aang, and knows that he would be an extremely powerful asset in any fight, but he hasn't gone up against what Luceti has to offer yet.

She flicks a look at Shikamaru which he should be able to read loud and clear. It says: If you even think about using him in any sort of plan, you'd better count me in too.]

[If he sees that look - and he does - he's doing his best not to show it.]

I'd rather not involve you at all, if it can be helped. But if it comes to that, yes. It'd be the safest gamble.

Yeah... If I do have to, maybe I can make it look like I was exaggerating about my powers. Something like that could make him think I'm just a dumb kid and lose interest.

[Silent. Assessing.

She wasn't sure that was what Shikamaru was going after at all, but if it was then she'd be interested in his opinion.

Also, don't think she didn't notice you ignoring her look, Shikamaru. She was assuming you'd know this already, but she will hunt you down and explain the lines in very clear terms if necessary.]

[Oh, he knows full well. He doesn't need to see her expression to tell that much.

He does need to get a read on Aang, however, hence why the airbender is getting all of his attention.]

It's risky. Especially if he surprises you with a face-to-face. He has... well, there's an ocular ability he likely has. It lets him see what the two of you call chi.

[Katara can probably see where he's going with this.]

[It was as if he could hear a distant voice chanting, "Chakras, chakras, chakras!". The plan that seemed so brilliant for Aang quickly deflated.]

It might not work, then. I think I have a lot of chi in me... especially after I opened my chakras. Unless I could lock them again...? [And invite various negative feelings back into his body] I don't really know if I can. ...It's kind of confusing.

I don't think that locking your chakras would be a good idea, Aang.

[Oh, you guys do have chakra then.]

Don't do anything drastic. [His hands are up, cautionary.] Really all I meant by that is that you would be better off making up an excuse to leave.

[He nodded along.]

You're right, it was a stupid idea. If I can enter the Avatar State here, then I have to be able to control it. [Putting aside the problem of that tricky last chakra...] That's a better idea! I'm good at excuses!

...so you think the best bet is to wait and see how it plays out, and if Tobi expresses an interest in Aang, just have Aang make an excuse.
