It's possible he could. Aang, your powers are similar to a rare ability in my own world. He could attempt to make you an ally, or he might not have any interest.

[He has suggestions, but... he would like to hear what Aang thinks of this first.]

So he might not be interested in my powers. He is a really weird guy... and hard to even understand.

[He tries to think this over.]

What's the best thing I could do if he does try to come after me? ...Is there any way to trick him?

[...Katara is not so sure about using Aang in any sort of scheme involving someone as dangerous as Shikamaru says. She has full confidence in Aang, and knows that he would be an extremely powerful asset in any fight, but he hasn't gone up against what Luceti has to offer yet.

She flicks a look at Shikamaru which he should be able to read loud and clear. It says: If you even think about using him in any sort of plan, you'd better count me in too.]

[If he sees that look - and he does - he's doing his best not to show it.]

I'd rather not involve you at all, if it can be helped. But if it comes to that, yes. It'd be the safest gamble.

Yeah... If I do have to, maybe I can make it look like I was exaggerating about my powers. Something like that could make him think I'm just a dumb kid and lose interest.

[Silent. Assessing.

She wasn't sure that was what Shikamaru was going after at all, but if it was then she'd be interested in his opinion.

Also, don't think she didn't notice you ignoring her look, Shikamaru. She was assuming you'd know this already, but she will hunt you down and explain the lines in very clear terms if necessary.]

[Oh, he knows full well. He doesn't need to see her expression to tell that much.

He does need to get a read on Aang, however, hence why the airbender is getting all of his attention.]

It's risky. Especially if he surprises you with a face-to-face. He has... well, there's an ocular ability he likely has. It lets him see what the two of you call chi.

[Katara can probably see where he's going with this.]

[It was as if he could hear a distant voice chanting, "Chakras, chakras, chakras!". The plan that seemed so brilliant for Aang quickly deflated.]

It might not work, then. I think I have a lot of chi in me... especially after I opened my chakras. Unless I could lock them again...? [And invite various negative feelings back into his body] I don't really know if I can. ...It's kind of confusing.

I don't think that locking your chakras would be a good idea, Aang.

[Oh, you guys do have chakra then.]

Don't do anything drastic. [His hands are up, cautionary.] Really all I meant by that is that you would be better off making up an excuse to leave.

[He nodded along.]

You're right, it was a stupid idea. If I can enter the Avatar State here, then I have to be able to control it. [Putting aside the problem of that tricky last chakra...] That's a better idea! I'm good at excuses!

...so you think the best bet is to wait and see how it plays out, and if Tobi expresses an interest in Aang, just have Aang make an excuse.

[She speaks like she's feeling out the idea.]

[Now his attention finally slides back to Katara. Come on - you must know he wouldn't rely only on that?]

I'm thinking what he should do should depend on how he's approached, if he is at all. With some warning, we can tailor a better plan to fit the situation.

[He looks between the two uncertainly for his own confirmation.]

Alright... So I contact you if he contacts me?

[He doesn't feel right about the random nature of this threat. Ozai was an inevitability, and most of his other enemies were people who hunted him. And in all those cases, he at least knew what they wanted to do to him.]

And with the warning now, we've already started working on it.

[Katara smiles and turns to Aang a little.]

See? It'll be okay.

[Shikamaru nods again - he already has plans, but you must always expect the unexpected. Things can change, and if something comes up, he wants to know.]

We'll make sure of it.

[He reflects Katara's smile and the nods back at Shikamaru. Pretty dependable guy in addition to being cool.]

Thanks, guys. And I'll be more careful from now on.

It wasn't your fault, Aang.

[Heee already said as much on his end about that. And even if it was accidental, he does like that Aang's taking responsibility. Seems like a really decent guy. He can see why he'd be the kind of person she'd admire.]

I know, Katara. I know I don't have bad guy detection powers, but I should still be more cautious... and maybe quiet about the whole Avatar people thing. The less people who can see me... and those close to me... as targets, the better.

[Her brows come together. What had happened in his time to make him think that way? Back when they were together, even chased across the world it had been of utmost importance to let everyone know that the Avatar was back - with the war over, had that somehow changed?]

I can't imagine how telling people you're the Avatar here would set up anyone as a target. Everyone here is from all different worlds, and many people here having amazing abilities. It's probably wise not to tell everyone everything that you can do, especially over the journals, but there's no reason to hide who you are.

It'll come out anyways. Might as well take control of the information flow.

[But on the contrary, he's saying this because he can see Aang's point of view, and reasoning.] I speak from experience. I tried to keep quiet about being a ninja for half a year myself. Take a wild guess to how well that worked out.

[Although Avatar things had been complicated for Aang during the Yu Dao incident, he had been increasingly comfortable with the role for the most part. It was here in Luceti where he was coming to question what it meant to be Avatar in a new world.]

All good points. Anything could be easily blown if random people from our world end up here. [And perhaps his best-hidden power, energy bending, was known to virtually no one to begin with.] Especially that weird guy at Kyoshi Island who fainted while foaming at the mouth from excitement whenever he saw me. And I guess it is pretty silly of me to assume I'm still so important here, when all these people seem to have their own cool skills.

[That guy was so annoying.]

I don't know about that. I think you're pretty important, and so does everyone else. [In the house] Even though you don't have the same position here as you did back home, that doesn't change who you are. And it doesn't mean that you won't be able to help here - things are just... different.
