Book 1: Fresh Water [Video]

[Aang is peering into the journal so his face takes up almost the entire screen. He begins shouting into the book as abruptly as his image appears]

Hey! What am I doing here? I'm Aang! I'm an Airbender. Does anyone know what's going on here? I can't find my friends, my clothes or any of my stuff! I thought I was on my sky bison with everyone else going to see the Earth King. Now I'm here. Have anyone of you book people seen anyone I know?

[Aang has pulled away from the journal but continues talking as he sits in a patch of grass.]

This is a really weird place. But kinda peaceful. Definitely not weird enough to be the Spirit World. What is going on here?? And... have I always had these wings?

[Aang lifts up the book with one hand, squinting and examining it like some foreign object. This results in the picture showing his quizzical face from a skewed angle.]

[It's a lot to take in, after Aang's other correspondents had said little other than "danger" and "war".]

No... You weren't kidding when you said they were like Dai Li. But these guys sound even worse. And... are you telling me... there or are a bunch of people like Ozai - or who could be Ozai - running around this place? Isn't there anything we can do? [Or just me? He wondered]

[Katara stopped walking and turned to look at Aang.]

We haven't had any real problems with residents in Luceti for a long time, Aang.

[At least, that she knows of.]

If something comes up, of course we're going to help as best we can. But right now, we're all trapped here. Our priority has to be continuing to live together while trying to find a way out.

But Katara's right. There's people here way out of our league. So don't go looking for trouble until you know what you're getting into.

[... but then, this is Aang. When has he ever done that?]

Anyway, that building ahead is the smithy. [See how the sign reads "Slash and Crash"? That's how you know Sokka runs it.] Your staff should be in there.

[He looked into Katara's eyes as she spoke and nodded his head in resignation. At first he had thought he was in a world that he didn't need to help. It was becoming clear that rather, it was a world that he couldn't help. He nodded in resignation when Sokka said his piece.]

I understand.

[After Sokka pointed out the smithy, he heightened his pace to the door without appreciating the wacky sign.]

[Waiting and hoping is the hardest part, Aang. But it pays off, you'll see.]

[I'm not being deep or involved with what's going unsaid here at all, but that's okay, because it's canon.]

I saw it earlier.

[Heading in after Aang, Sokka quickly heads towards the stand of New Feather stands, retrieving the very same staff the Mechanist had made. He holds it out for Aang.]

There. Just like you left it.

[The familiar sight helped to cheer him a bit. He picked it up and twirled it around.]

Thanks, Sokka. It almost feels like-

[Aang's voice is pierced by a rumbling, emanating from his stomach with a loudness that fills the smithy.]

I'm pretty hungry.

I think we can do something about that. Do you want to head back to the house or get something to eat in town?

How about the house so I can see it for myself? If you guys have food that I eat.

Sure, we've got plenty of fruit and vegetables... [She's going to have to start cooking two meals again.]

I'll come back and grab some more later. In the meantime, I could make noodles and stir fry?

[Aang of course remains oblivious to her extra work.]

Yeah, that sounds great!

[... we still get meat, right Katara? Right? RIGHT? RIGHT?]

South it is, then. The place is pretty nice. Even better than that place we stayed in at Ba Sing Se.

[Aang starts to step towards the smithy's exit.]

Really? It must a great place then. How many of us live there?

Right now, it's just us, Suki, and Zuko.

[NOT THAT KATARA MISSES TOPH OR ANYTHING, nope. Not her.]

And there's already a room for you. It used to be Yue's. [... blink.] Which is a long story.

[Aang still found himself wondering what the moon was doing in their house.]

All of us living together? That's great! We'd only need Toph to be the full group again. Do you think she'll pop up suddenly somewhere like I did?

[He mentally glazes over the potential awkwardness of being around Zuko; he had managed to curb his anger at his time's Zuko for the time being, and his conversation with the one in this world had gone civil enough. Otherwise, the living situation is like a dream come true.]

Well, it's been known to happen before...

[Three times, actually. Just like with you.]

[Aang, bro, you're a little too happy about this arrangement!]

Though we've never had the full gang here before. So... I wouldn't hold my breath. [Always the pessimist.]

I dunno Sokka, I have a good feeling about this. And then we'd just need Appa...

Aang... you know people being stuck here... isn't really a good thing, right?

[Silence from Sokka here. Because Luceti... was an odd place to get conflicted about. Lots of terrible stuff, but two years of memories and experiences were invested in it now.]

I know, I'm sorry. I just got caught up in the idea and wasn't thinking straight. Toph and Appa should stay back home. It feels like I can't think any one way about his place for too long.

That's okay, Aang. I know it's confusing. This place... can really do a number on your head.

[Tentative smile.]

But even though it's not good that any of us are here, I'm still really glad to see you.

Yeah, we missed you, buddy. I mean, how can we call ourselves Team Avatar without our Avatar? We'd have to be... Team Flying Lemur or something.

[He's reassured a bit by this and forms a faint smirk.]

Thanks. I'm always glad to see you, Katara. [He breaks away from her eye contact to chuckle weakly at Sokka] You too, Sokka. I think... I want to be here. But only as long as you guys are here. I want this chance to make sure everyone gets back home okay.
