Book 1: Fresh Water [Video]

[Aang is peering into the journal so his face takes up almost the entire screen. He begins shouting into the book as abruptly as his image appears]

Hey! What am I doing here? I'm Aang! I'm an Airbender. Does anyone know what's going on here? I can't find my friends, my clothes or any of my stuff! I thought I was on my sky bison with everyone else going to see the Earth King. Now I'm here. Have anyone of you book people seen anyone I know?

[Aang has pulled away from the journal but continues talking as he sits in a patch of grass.]

This is a really weird place. But kinda peaceful. Definitely not weird enough to be the Spirit World. What is going on here?? And... have I always had these wings?

[Aang lifts up the book with one hand, squinting and examining it like some foreign object. This results in the picture showing his quizzical face from a skewed angle.]

Yeah, we missed you, buddy. I mean, how can we call ourselves Team Avatar without our Avatar? We'd have to be... Team Flying Lemur or something.

[He's reassured a bit by this and forms a faint smirk.]

Thanks. I'm always glad to see you, Katara. [He breaks away from her eye contact to chuckle weakly at Sokka] You too, Sokka. I think... I want to be here. But only as long as you guys are here. I want this chance to make sure everyone gets back home okay.

[Sigh. We never gave ourselves a Team Name, Sokka.

But, you know, Aang's here, she can let this argument go for once.]

That sounds like a good plan.

[...for as long as he's here, anyway. Having the people that you care about show up here is always so weird.]

[And Sokka... well, despite everything he's seen Aang do, Luceti does a number on your ability to have high hopes for anyone doing anything. And even with the Avatar here ~~for longer than a week~~, he doesn't hold much hope.]

Yeah. That's what we're all hoping for.

[Aang nods along.] We'll be fine as long as we're together. That's how it always works!

I've also been wondering... is this place connected to the Spirit World too? I haven't gotten much meditation in since I got here so I couldn't check. [He felt like he knew the answer, but it was worth inquiring. Maybe Roku would be able to help.]

[Katara exchanges a quick glance with Sokka.]

I don't know, Aang. I've never been able to connect to the Spirit World like you have, and this place has its own spirits.

[He does the same, but shrugs and is just blunt about it.]

I haven't felt any spirity-spirit stuff going on myself. And this place has ample bathrooms and bending. Besides, different worlds have different rules. There might not be a spirit world at all.

That's right... I guess you wouldn't be able to tell. [Aang figures it may be for the best, considering how his last talk with Roku went.] All these different world things are gonna make my head hurt even more.

Are we there yet?

No, we still have to cross the bridge. We're all the way down to the south of the village.

[CAN'T IMAGINE WHOSE IDEA THAT WAS. /stares at Sokka.]

We should have took the shortcut. [Yeah it's through the woods. But. It's through the woods!] Anyway, it was the best house available when Katara showed up. The old place was too small.

[Sighs.] Good to know your instincts are still so sharp. [His glider could have made the best shortcut, but he couldn't carry both of them. It was just the other day when he took Katara over the wall to Yu Dao; he tries not to dwell on it, still readjusting to the old status quo.]

We're right by the barracks, anyway. And that's where Sokka built the teleporters to the ocean, so that's a plus.

Which I helped build, I might add! [Sokka. The Alchemist.]

Teleporters... to the ocean? Whoa! Is that even possible?

[Katara will now generously allow Sokka to brag.

Because she is an awesome sister.]

Well, scientifically speaking, it shouldn't be possible. But this place is full of all kinds of impossible things. So yeah, pretty much.

[And Sokka is a stick in the mud when it comes to these things.]

This place has so many things I haven't even imagined... our journey would have been so much quicker if we had some kinda teleport-thingy! But then Appa wouldn't get exercise.

It feels a little weird when it happens, but it's worth it.

[And here they are at the bridge! Almost 'home' now!]

And Appa wouldn't fit, so he'd get plenty of exercise anyway.

What other kinds of... really cool, impossible things do they have here?

Well... I'm friends with a guy who's made out of rubber?

I can use magic now. [... yes, Sokka of all people, has learned magic. YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH IT.]

[He raises his eyebrow at Katara's comment; but Sokka's catches him offguard and leaves him much more flabbergasted.]

Sokka? You're... magic? [pause as Aang tries to gather thoughts] ...How?

[And Katara doesn't even correct him about how bending is NOT THE SAME as magic.]

He's learned to use the filial spirits here.

[HE DIDN'T SAY IT WAS. This time.]

Yeah. Anyone can do it. [So it's not that special.] But it's handy sometimes. Starting campfires has never been so easy.
