Book 1: Fresh Water [Video]

[Aang is peering into the journal so his face takes up almost the entire screen. He begins shouting into the book as abruptly as his image appears]

Hey! What am I doing here? I'm Aang! I'm an Airbender. Does anyone know what's going on here? I can't find my friends, my clothes or any of my stuff! I thought I was on my sky bison with everyone else going to see the Earth King. Now I'm here. Have anyone of you book people seen anyone I know?

[Aang has pulled away from the journal but continues talking as he sits in a patch of grass.]

This is a really weird place. But kinda peaceful. Definitely not weird enough to be the Spirit World. What is going on here?? And... have I always had these wings?

[Aang lifts up the book with one hand, squinting and examining it like some foreign object. This results in the picture showing his quizzical face from a skewed angle.]

I can use magic now. [... yes, Sokka of all people, has learned magic. YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH IT.]

[He raises his eyebrow at Katara's comment; but Sokka's catches him offguard and leaves him much more flabbergasted.]

Sokka? You're... magic? [pause as Aang tries to gather thoughts] ...How?

[And Katara doesn't even correct him about how bending is NOT THE SAME as magic.]

He's learned to use the filial spirits here.

[Action]

[HE DIDN'T SAY IT WAS. This time.]

Yeah. Anyone can do it. [So it's not that special.] But it's handy sometimes. Starting campfires has never been so easy.

Still, that's really cool Sokka. You get this magic from special spirits? I guess that makes sense, like how some of the spirits back home effect bending!

Oh right... someone in the book was telling me that there's a wind spirit somewhere. I have to make sure I find him eventually!

Kippin.

[And then Katara shows off. Along with Nala and Sona, Kippin was the only other spirit she'd learned. She extends a hand and suddenly the wind picks up a little, enough to blow her hair back.]

I learned that first.

[SHOW OFF. He wanted to do that.]

[Aang is captivated by this and looks on in awe. He barely suppresses a "sweetie" from slipping out.] Katara, that's amazing! It's... almost like you were Airbending!

[Katara is pleased and mildly embarrassed.]

Almost. I mean, the filial spirits aren't as strong as bending. But Kippin is nice to talk to.

[He reminded me of you.]

[Action]

[Good. Sokka is so beyond needing to get the oogies. Besides, see that up ahead? It's home. Let's derail Aang's usual admiration of Katara for something else.]

Well, there it is. Our Luceti vacation spot. Sure, it doesn't have a nice ocean view like Ember Island and lacks the convenient location in Ba Sing Se, but wait until you experience the indoor plumbing.

[You can just barely see a corner of the house sticking out, because the community building is otherwise blocking the sight.]

[Aang is pulled over from said admiration of Katara and anticipation of meeting Kippin] But I bet it's not as comfortable as Appa's back. That's it over there?

[Katara isn't sure her memories of Appa's back match up with 'pure comfort.']

Sure is. It's hard to miss, what with the statue of Sokka's head, and all.

[Action]

[Indeed there was, in fact, Sokka's head. Carved in stone. Toph's 'valentine' to him over two years ago. Sokka didn't even notice it anymore, except when it was pointed out.]

That's a long story.

[Action]

Wow, that does look like you, Sokka! [He takes in the house as they near it.] The house does look really nice.

[Action]

Right, here we are. [Katara opens the door and enters, then turns to look at Aang.]

Well? What do you think?

[Of particular concern is the color she painted the room - technically a nation-neutral yellow, but really... it could be considered close to Air Nomad colors.]

[Action]

[Sokka flops on the couch because he's an unfeeling jerk like that.]

Comfy, right?

[Action]

[Aang steps in and takes a look around. The colors do indeed remind him of the air nomads, which inspires warm feelings. Having been traveling ever since he came from the iceberg, the idea of having one stable home for an indefinite period of time seemed odd yet comforting.]

I like it.

[He curiously peers around with a wide smile.]

[Action]

Good! [She smiles, happy.]

We've got two rooms free, so you can take a look and pick the one you like.

[There's the larger, nicer one by the bathroom next to Zuko, or the smaller one next to her on the same side as Suki and Sokka.]

Alright!

[Aang peeks into both of the indicated rooms. He doesn't want to impose or anything - just somewhere to keep his staff and sleep. So he points out the smaller room.]

I'll take this one!

[Action]

All right! [And so at long last, Katara passes off the guide to Aang.]

Here's the guide. Why don't you take a look through that while I make lunch?

[Aang had naturally forgotten completely about the book.] Thanks. [He received it from Katara with a smile and then plopped down on the couch next to Sokka to look through it.]
