[She cracks her knuckles and sets another one of the metal slabs against a tree trunk. She raps on the metal first, before grabbing it at the top with each hand and renting it in two.]

[He takes a careful observation of her movements.]

That was really great!

[metalbends]

[She sweeps her hands.]

Of course it was! And what did you notice about how I handled the metal?

You tapped it first.

[metalbends]

Mmhmm. You've always gotta know what kind of metal you're dealing with, because they're all composed differently. And what about the actual movement?

[Action - June 14]

Um... you used both of your hands, and it just... ripped real quickly!

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

[Well, that's true, but...]

It didn't exactly look like the earthbending you're used to, did it?

[Action - June 14]

[savedtheworld]

Right! You tore it instead of making it a different shape.

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

Uhuh. Metal can be moved and ripped and crunched, but you can't turn it into a new shape like you can with earth--you know, not that I've discovered yet, anyway. [She grins.] So the forms are obviously gonna be different, too.

[Action - June 14]

I get it. So it'll be a lot to learn. Not that that's a bad thing!

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

That's right! Even when you figure out how to bend one kind of metal, you've got to apply yourself when trying to bend other kinds. That's just how it goes.

[Action - June 14]

[savedtheworld]

I understand. [He looks back to the metal.] So what should I try next?

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

[She ponders this for a moment.] Try hitting the metal, and see if you can make a dent in it. Not with your strength, but with your bending.

[Action - June 14]

[savedtheworld]

Sure!

[He focuses for a moment and then strikes at the metal, trying to hit it in a similar way as earth - and focusing on the earth he sensed in the metal. He pulls back his hand with a little pain in his fingers... but left behind on the metal is a slight and partial imprint of his strike.]

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

Well? That's a start. [She steps up to the metal to feel exactly what kind of marks he left.] You've got to treat it entirely different than throwing a punch, though. Because you're not hitting the metal--you're moving it with your fist.

[Action - June 14]

[He steps to the side as Toph examines it and nods along.]

Alright. I think I have a better idea now of what I should be doing.

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

Want to try it again, then?

[Action - June 14]

[He makes a determined nod.]

Yeah! The same sheet?

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

[She nods.] Yeah, now that you've got a better idea about what's going on in this metal.

[Action - June 14]

[savedtheworld]

Right! [He looks down at the metal and focuses harder, remembering the earth in it and what it felt like. Aang closes his eyes and punches at it. This time, when his fist meets the metal, he's sure to feel all of the earth around him and begin to shape it.

When he pulls back, more than half of the sheet is now crumpled inwards. He opens his eyes and grins in excitement.]

How did I do?

[Toph puts a hand against the metal to feel it before she takes it back to applaud.]

Not bad, Twinkletoes! Congratulations. You just performed your first, true metalbending.

[Action - June 14]

[He takes a look at his own handiwork and beams proudly.]

Thanks, Toph! I finally did it. I bent metal!

[Action - June 14]

[metalbends]

You sure did! You've done was a lotta earthbenders can't even wrap their minds around. But you've still got a ways to go before you master it.

[Action - June 14]

Of course. I don't want to get ahead of myself. It just feels great to be learning new things again. [He cracks his fingers.] And I'm ready for the next challenge.

[metalbends]

[She moves the metal slab and sets another one in its place.]

This is the next challenge, then. This pieces is more processed, and the impurities are harder to find. Give it shot, though.
