[Appointments] March 2012-February 2013

[He makes a determined nod.]

Yeah! The same sheet?

[She nods.] Yeah, now that you've got a better idea about what's going on in this metal.

Right! [He looks down at the metal and focuses harder, remembering the earth in it and what it felt like. Aang closes his eyes and punches at it. This time, when his fist meets the metal, he's sure to feel all of the earth around him and begin to shape it.

When he pulls back, more than half of the sheet is now crumpled inwards. He opens his eyes and grins in excitement.]

How did I do?

[Toph puts a hand against the metal to feel it before she takes it back to applaud.]

Not bad, Twinkletoes! Congratulations. You just performed your first, true metalbending.

[He takes a look at his own handiwork and beams proudly.]

Thanks, Toph! I finally did it. I bent metal!

You sure did! You've done was a lotta earthbenders can't even wrap their minds around. But you've still got a ways to go before you master it.

Of course. I don't want to get ahead of myself. It just feels great to be learning new things again. [He cracks his fingers.] And I'm ready for the next challenge.

[She moves the metal slab and sets another one in its place.]

This is the next challenge, then. This pieces is more processed, and the impurities are harder to find. Give it shot, though.

Alright. I'll see what I can do.

[He presses his hands onto the metal sheet and patiently feels around it. It's almost a minute before he starts to feel pings of earth.]

It's gonna take awhile to get used to, but eventually you'll get faster at picking them up.

I see...

[He feels around some more until he feels comfortable with the volume of earth he senses. It just feels more remote this time around. He pulls his hands back.]

Okay... I'm gonna go for it!

[Aang hits the metal and focuses around his hand on the metal. It's definitely harder this time, and requires more concentration, but he begins to make some of the metal cave inward. When he pulls back, it's not as impressive as the first sheet. There are a few sizeable dents throughout the sheet, mostly where there's higher amounts of earth, but they don't take up as much of the sheet as his original dent.]

[Hey, he's catching on. Toph gives an approving nod.]

You're really starting to get the hang of it!

Thanks! I didn't get as much as the other one, but... I feel like I'm getting the hang of it.

Yeah, you kind of are! But don't let it go to your head.

Oh, I won't! That would be really un-monklike of me.

Want to keep going, or do you think you've got enough to absorb for today?

I think it could be enough! I have a lot to think over, now.

[Nod.] You should get comfortable with what you know before you move on to more advanced forms of metal. But we should take these two pieces home with us for you to practice with.

Sure thing. You still are a great teacher, Toph.

[He smiles earnestly as he collects the metal.]

I know! [She grins, picking up the other metal sheets.] But still. Thanks for the reminder.
