Book 12: Solid Foundations [Video/Action]

[Back home, Aang wasn't really one to pay much attention to individual dates of the month, aside from eventually looking out for his friend's birthdays and stuff, although he could barely remember his own. But in Luceti, it was a lot easier to keep track of time. After all, he could see what day it is right on the journal. It was a near part of every morning to check out what today's date was. Even though, as this month approached, he had begun to realize exactly how much time he was spending here. And it was today when he got the definite proof: for the first time, he saw a date in the journal he had seen before. March the 19th.

That confirmed it: he had already been here a whole year. To think he was technically 15 now, even though he didn't feel it (partly because his body is still 14 from the brief trip home he had several months back). It already felt like so long ago when first arrived and got used to the situation. To the fact that he and Katara weren't a couple in this world - and that Katara and Sokka had lived in this world for so long without him. He wanted to do what he could to make it up to them. And now, a year later, he wondered if he had. And if he could make any real differences here in this world, for the betterment of them all. And aside from that... He thought of how much things had changed over this whole year. How he learned his future and met his next life. Met Ikki, the airbending apple of his eye. All of the good, bad and ugly coming from knowing the future; and it was only possible here, in Luceti.]

[Aang pops open the journal when he's home that afternoon, regarding it with a bright smile.]

Hey, everyone. It's Aang. [He almost wants to say, I've been here a year now. Isn't that weird?] Have any of you ever been able to do anything really neat with your wings? I know they can't fly, but still... between my wings, airbending and Kipinn, there's gotta be some kinda awesome trick I can pull off...

[It just feels important for today in particular to accomplish something. To feel like he's grown in some way.]

And by the way! If anyone wants to go on adventures with me and Appa while there's still snow around, feel free to let me know.

[And he goes through a variety of tasks throughout the day. Aside from spending the early part of the day at school. And after school, then he spends a few hours playing around in the snow and possibly taking Appa out on some journeys. He also slips in some time at the library before going home for dinner. No need to make a big deal of the day. And before he goes to the bed, he bundles up and goes over by the river to do some rare nighttime meditation. He hopes that maybe he'll stumble upon something, some way to advance peace in this world.]

Well, that was an...exaggeration...of my other side. I'm glad you don't hold it against me.

[Wow Aang.

Of course I don't! You're a spirit or like a spirit, anyway. I know you guys have a lot on your mind and that your bad days are really bad days! It wasn't a problem at all - it was an honor to help you whatever way you acted.

Well, I appreciate it. I will see you shortly?

[She'll be waiting by the fountain with a big basket of mango flavored dango. For an adventure, you see.]

Yeah... I'll see you, Saori!

[Appa soon is descending towards the plaza... but with no one aboard. Rather, towing right behind him is Aang on his glider. Appa comes to a landing several yards from the fountain, followed by the giggling Aang who lands a moment later.]

Okay, buddy! You win this time!

[Saori waves up at the boy, and Appa. She walks on over and gives the big beastie a pat. If he'll accept it, anyway.]

You know, you've mentioned Appa to me, but I didn't think he was so large.

[Appa accepts all pats, as he sniffs out the newest friend.]

Hey, Saori! You're right. He's a real big boy!

[Well she sniffs him right back! Happily, at that. Hopefully he won't expect her to do anything weird like lick him. But pats still happen.]

What kind of animal did you say he is? I can feel his connection to the sky, and he's rather magnificent.

[Aang giggles at this. Appa certainly doesn't expect a licking, but he may still lick at her with his big old tongue to mark their new friendship.]

You got half of it right there! He's a sky bison - and he really is magnificent!

[Wow! Appa lickings! She certainly giggles right back, giving his head a big hug, not minding the slobber at all.]

And such a happy one, it seems. He's very affectionate! A magnificent creature if I ever saw one.

[She turns her attention to Aang.]

So, where shall we go for an adventure?

He definitely likes the attention! [Appa seems to enjoy all the friends he makes in this place, and Saori is definitely no exception.

While Aang ponders for a moment.]

I'm not sure. I might be able to think of something, but do you have anywhere specific in mind, Saori?

[Well that's good. She has a fondness for anything that flies!]

Well, if we fly...we could possibly go to the barrier and back before dinner. What do you think?

Now that sounds like a good way to build up an appetite! What do you say Appa?

[Appa growls.]

I think he likes it, too! Should we start boarding?

Well then you are in luck. I have snacks.

[She hands over the basket, which has some mango-dango and a few danish and other baked things inside.]

An apology for my behavior, and a thank you for the other day. It helped a lot.

Oh! Thanks, Saori. [He smiles as he looks over the basket.]

You really didn't need to, but I appreciate it. And I'm glad I could help.

Well, it was nothing. I hope you like it.

[She hops up on Appa, why not let the fuzzball take her for a ride.]

I'm ready when you are, too.

I'm always ready!

[He air-hops onto Appa himself while keeping a grip on his food. He then places it in the saddle while he goes over to his reins.]

Now get yourself nice and seated, and we'll be ready for take-off!

I'm ready when you are.

[She gets ready to hold on tight, watching with interest. This sort of flying steed has her more than a little curious. How could he fly?]

Okay then, Saori! [He turns back to face he briefly with a smile before gripping the reins.]

Appa... yip yip!

[And the sky bison is taking off!]

[She grins as they do, hands holding on tight as the wind blows her hair around a bit. This is pretty fun!]

He's very smooth in the air, I thought he might fly more roughly...but

Yeah, he's a real good flyer! It's thanks to his airbending.

He's an airbender like you? Naturally, I assume? Or is it something he learned?

It's natural for the sky bison! In fact, they say that our people originally learned how to airbend from them. [He pets at Appa's horn with a warm smile.] I still think you're holding out some tricks on me, buddy!

[And Appa gave a growling reply.]

Is that what they say? Hm.

[She runs a hand through his fuzz]

A wise old beast like this? I could see it.

[Appa's definitely comforted by the petting.]

He's a wise guy, alright! [Aang laughs some more as Appa evens out in the sky. He then releases the reins and hops back to join Saori in the saddle.]

Like the view?

[She laughs and nods excitedly]

It's wonderful! It's a bit rare that I'm the one riding in the air, so this is a real treat.
