[Appointments] March 2013-

Aang! [Katara walks out to meet him, her face concerned. Let's get down to business.] I saw what you were saying to Loki -- do you really think we'll be able to talk sense to Wan Shi Tong?

[Getting down to business indeed, even without Huns involved. Aang frowns as he tries to explain.]

It's honestly hard to say right now. Especially when I can't talk sense into Loki, either. When I first talked to Wan Shi Tong here... he said that he might make compromises if we could be trustworthy. We might have been able to take books out again if we played along for a little while, and things wouldn't be so bad. But now that Loki's acted and he doesn't want to give anything up to Wan Shi Tong... I don't know what to do.

[Wan Shi Tong wouldn't take this sitting down for long. What would come of this - and how bad would it be?]

[Katara considers all this with a frown.]

I never thought I'd be defending anything Loki did, but I can understand why he did it. I'd feel horrible if some medical spirit from another world came into the clinic and decided that everything in there had to be done by his rules. Those books don't belong to Wan Shi Tong. He doesn't have the right to tell the village what to do. If we just give it to him, then where do we stop?

[And Aang frowns in turn as he considers all of what she says.]

That's why we need to find a compromise. Then it won't be like we're just giving them to him. If we can find a way that people can still read books freely while Wan Shi Tong gets to protect knowledge in some way, maybe that'll work. I know that Wan Shi Tong can be one of the meaniest spirits we've met... [And one of the scariest.] but he's still a spirit. I have to make sure that whatever solution helps him to be at peace. [He looks away uneasily.] Especially since... since we know how dangerous he could be.

[He doesn't want to risk conflict her in the enclosure, especially when it's over something like books.]

I know he'd dangerous. [Thinking about the two minutes in which he nearly killed her five times was terrifying and why she hadn't responded to the spirit in the first place.] But just because he'd dangerous doesn't mean that he gets to do whatever he wants. Wan Shi Tong might be the protector of knowledge back home... but he isn't here, Aang. He's going to need to try and learn to be part of the community, not take over the community. [She glances away, frowning a little and trying to think.] Maybe he can make copies of the books -- or we can pool mission points to make copies of the books -- and he can start building his own library -- collecting new knowledge here!

[She gives a sudden smile.] Maybe he can interview people from different worlds and write books about what they know and compare and contrast things! Make and guard that knowledge, knowledge that would be his entirely.

[He listens to her plan carefully. And it doesn't sound too bad. Maybe a bit unlikely that Wan Shi Tong would allow that much of a compromise so fast - but Katara's optimistic tone and smile is infectious. Aang smiles back.]

Yeah... Now that's a pretty good idea! If he can get his own books to protect without anyone else getting upset, maybe that'd be the answer! There's lots of ways he can learn here without relying on the books that're already here, after all. I bet he could even learn a lot just from going to school. You know... Maybe we should suggest that to him!

I don't think I'd like him to be in the school. [A little bit of hesitance. She flat out doesn't want him near Ikki.] It might take some time for him to be willing to be around so many people, anyway. But he's going to have to learn to be part of a community; he's not in authority here.

[It isn't until she says that and he envisions it that he realizes that. He doesn't want Ikki near the owl that almost but his head off either.]

Right, forget about the school part! It might be tough because of the way Wan Shi Tong thinks... but getting him to not be the authority has got to be part of the solution. So I have to work on changing his mind.

You'd think being kidnapped and given an extra pair of wings would clue him in on that. [That's said with a little bit of bitterness, but then she shakes her head and shakes it off.]

If anyone can help him see that things are different here, it's you, Aang.

[He gives a warm smile at that. Katara's words are always helpful to him - they help him believe that he can do whatever she has faith in.]

Thanks, Katara. [But then he seems to be focused in thought, clearly on some very important matter.]

You know... When I saw Wan Shi Tong before, I never saw him from behind. Since he's here, does that mean now he has... wings on his wings?

Even Aku had wings. [She shrugs.] I don't think anyone can avoid it. But I don't think they'd be... on his wings?

[Oh right, that scary demon guy he's likely heard about.]

That's even weirder to picture!

Well... if four wings is the weirdest thing we see this month, we're probably lucky.

I guess you're right. [Especially after last month's parade of weirndess.] That much weirdness might not be so bad! I'd count us lucky, too.

[A quick smile.]

So... are we going to try to talk to Wan Shi Tong now?

You think we should do it now? I wanted to see what Helios thinks too, since he's also talked to Wan Shi Tong.
