[She's right. He doesn't. He's never really experienced this death penalty removal process even firsthand. Whatever it was Sokka lost... was it really something you can regain?]

It's... it's got to be because of the way he is. He's doing everything on his own... as if he doesn't care what others think. It's like there's nothing holding him back.

What was he like before? I mean...how was he different than he is now?

[He doesn't know where to start. Except with a soft breath.]

He... he was my best friend.

[ It's a simple statement, but it tells her a lot. Aang wouldn't be best friends with someone like the person Sokka was now. ]

But if he's that different, why didn't anyone figure it out until now?

Because... He still knows how to act the same, I guess. It's complicated. Not to mention that being here a long time... as long as Sokka has... it can change people. But what he did up there? That's not the Sokka I know. He'd never... never treat any life like that.

[ Korra stiffens, looking at Aang directly. ]

You mean, he wasn't like that before? The whole...killing thing? [ She hopes that's the case. ]

Not like that. [He shakes his head bitterly.] He's a warrior, but in the past... He only took lives when he absolutely had to. To save other's lives. [To save hos life, in fact, on their first draft together.]

[ It still didn't sit well with her, but...that was better than how he was now, at least. ]

Now it doesn't bother him at all. How long is it supposed to take for him to return to normal?

I think that it should be... next month when he can be put back. [A pause.] But he has to choose to.

Wait, really? [ That was something she hadn't heard about before. It has her alarmed. ] They don't just come and take him?

As far as I know, they don't. I've never... s-seen someone through this before, but from what I've heard... they usually have to volunteer themselves. Otherwise, I don't know if the Malnosso would look into it...

We have to make him go, Aang. Even if he fights it, he has to go back to normal.

[ Not only was Sokka a jerk, but it wasn't natural. People couldn't just lose the part of their soul that mattered most. ]

I- I know. He can't go on like this. But I still have to find out the details for sure. We'll have to figure out how to do it when the time comes.

We should start talking to him about it as soon as he gets back. Maybe it we take some time, we can convince him.

[ Of course, she has no idea if that would really work. She's never known the real Sokka. Would he do that? Let himself be talked into something he didn't want to do? ]

That's a good idea, Korra. Me and Katara... We want to try. And to see what happens. Maybe... maybe we can convince him.

Will you let me know what happens when you talk to him?

Don't worry, Korra. I will. [He goes to put a hand on her shoulder.] After all... we're all family here.

[ She's not exactly sure what to say about that, so she nods instead. She can appreciate the sentiment, even if she can't quite feel like she's on that level yet. ]

You're welcome, Korra. We're gonna get through this together. And - I'll be here whenever you need to talk. [He doesn't think he's anywhere near the magical spirit guide he'll be for her one day. But he'll try the best he can while he's here.]

[ Magical spirit guide or not, she appreciates the offer, so he gets a small, earnest smile for his efforts. ]

Right. You can talk to me, too, if you need to, you know. I'm not great at this stuff, but...just putting it out there.
