Book 1: Fresh Water [Video]

[Aang is peering into the journal so his face takes up almost the entire screen. He begins shouting into the book as abruptly as his image appears]

Hey! What am I doing here? I'm Aang! I'm an Airbender. Does anyone know what's going on here? I can't find my friends, my clothes or any of my stuff! I thought I was on my sky bison with everyone else going to see the Earth King. Now I'm here. Have anyone of you book people seen anyone I know?

[Aang has pulled away from the journal but continues talking as he sits in a patch of grass.]

This is a really weird place. But kinda peaceful. Definitely not weird enough to be the Spirit World. What is going on here?? And... have I always had these wings?

[Aang lifts up the book with one hand, squinting and examining it like some foreign object. This results in the picture showing his quizzical face from a skewed angle.]

I am? That's a relief. I guess I'm used to waking up in completely different places (or times). And my friends are all here and okay, so I don't have much of a problem. Oh wait, I haven't heard from Toph yet. She has to be somewhere around here too.

[She grows thoughtful at mention of that other name. It's familiar too, though not nearly as much.]

Toph? I admit, I haven't seen or heard of her on the journals in a while. I'm sure your friends from home will be able to tell you about her, though.

...and you know, it's possible that your sky bison will show up, too.

She might not be here? That stinks. ...But that would mean she's safe back at home, right?

Appa... that's right! I should have asked if he was with Katara and the others.

Yes, that's right. She'll return at the same point in which she would have left. Nothing would have changed, to anyone else.

Sky bisons are pretty big, aren't they? I would have seen him around, if he had been here recently. But since you're the one he's closest to, I'm sure that will make a difference. He'll be here soon, I bet.

I sure hope so. Appa is... [He blinks and tries to push away the memory of Appa's last absence] ...he should be fine. Toph and Momo too. I still wanna see them soon.

What about you? What kind of world are you from?

You never know; maybe you will.

I'm from a world now at peace, though it had its issues in the recent past. We don't have bending, but we do have magic. There's white magic, which is healing and supportive, and black magic, which is elemental and combat-centric. I could show you, sometime.

Great, I love it when places are at peace! Such a relief. And real magic? That sounds unbelievable! I'd love to take a look sometime. It does sound kinda like bending in some ways.

Sort of, but it's less...dynamic, I guess you could say? The spells always produce the same effects. Now, the magic that people can learn from the local spirits, that's probably a little closer to what you do. In fact, I'm sure the wind spirit would love to meet you.

[Any hopes of Aang continuing to go on about bending are lost with that last sentence.] There's a wind spirit here?! That's amazing! I've never met one even back in my own world! Where is he? I wonder what he can teach me!

[That's okay. Rydia doesn't seem to mind.]

Kipinn can be found wherever there's a good breeze; the mountains or beach shore are best, but he might be anywhere. He's really friendly and playful! I've learned a little from him; he's taught me to control breezes and affect sound...even create it, though that's a lot more difficult. The right use of it can boost your speed, too.
