Book 1: Fresh Water [Video]

[Aang is peering into the journal so his face takes up almost the entire screen. He begins shouting into the book as abruptly as his image appears]

Hey! What am I doing here? I'm Aang! I'm an Airbender. Does anyone know what's going on here? I can't find my friends, my clothes or any of my stuff! I thought I was on my sky bison with everyone else going to see the Earth King. Now I'm here. Have anyone of you book people seen anyone I know?

[Aang has pulled away from the journal but continues talking as he sits in a patch of grass.]

This is a really weird place. But kinda peaceful. Definitely not weird enough to be the Spirit World. What is going on here?? And... have I always had these wings?

[Aang lifts up the book with one hand, squinting and examining it like some foreign object. This results in the picture showing his quizzical face from a skewed angle.]

Yeah- I mean, yeah. That's me. [It's been so long it's almost like meeting him for the first time again. Jeez.] What about you? Everything okay? Wings in working order?

You look kinda... different. And there's something on your chin.

My wings? They were aching before but they're fine. Really cool too. Don't know where I'd be without them!

[markofthewise]

[Technically you'd be dead, Aang, but let's not get to that part yet.]

Oh, er, well yeah. I've, you know, been here awhile. It's kind of a long story.

What? But I was just with you! We were all on our way to meet with the Earth King...

[markofthewise]

[Of course Sokka's first thought is: He's from Season Two back in Ba Sing Se!?]

Yeah, uh, I'm kind of past all that. We met the Earth King. And then we exposed Long Jerkface, and... other stuff happened.

Yeah! That was when we met Bosco and I tried to open my chakras and then Azula- [he abruptly stops and goes silent for a moment.]

But that was over a year ago. What does that have to do with the problem with the colonies? Jerkface isn't loose again, right?

[markofthewise]

[There is a pause as Sokka tries to process this. How can Aang be- why would he- year ago- how is that-

Sokka takes a deep breath and forges ahead.]

... when you say a year ago, you mean a full twelfth months? Like, Sozin's comet has come and gone, peace is restored, Zuko gets a fancy thing to put in his hair, and why is there problems with the colonies?

Right! Can't you remember? If you're old, then how come you don't remember what happened? Sokka, did you just forget everything that happened in the colonies with Zuko? Shouldn't you know the future?

[markofthewise]

[Usually he does! He's always been ahead of everyone! Now he's being usurped from his position of knowingness.]

... I've been here since the war ended. Which was over two years ago for me. So I don't know much... future stuff at all.

[It takes Aang a moment to process this.]

So after we kicked the Fire Lord's butt... you were here for two years, and I was home for one year. But you were there with us the whole time! I don't get any of this!

[markofthewise]

Yeah, it pretty much sounds crazy, doesn't it? Unfortunately I don't have a really good analogy to go with it. You're better off just trusting me on this one!
