Book 7: Sands of Time [Action/Video]

[As Aang checked the journal that morning, to make sure things were fine around the village, the one thing that caught his eye wound up being the date. There it was, a "19". It stuck in his head because of when he had first opened the journal. There had been a 19 there, too. That meant one thing. Another month had passed since he had arrived here. Another month kept from home and the future he was both anticipating and dreading. If Aang felt like doing the math, he would realize it's been half a year now, since he was last home. Half a year of various trials and tribulations, friendships that were built up, damaged and mended, love that was questioned and unexpected sources of both comfort and hurt. He even came to known that the crisis he left back home would be resolved relatively peacefully... but he also learned more, much more than he wanted to know about his future. There was still joy to be found in the return of Ikki, even if it was accompanied by a dread for her wellbeing. He takes a moment to flip back to that first entry out of curiosity... and snaps it shut when he hears himself saying the word "Sweetie".

With just a moment more of reflection, he got out of bed, ready to continue doing his thing until he could bring his friends back home, to whatever futures truly awaited them.

And so Aang goes through his daily life. The fourteen year old monk starts off his day with training; firebending with Zuko while the grandkids are asleep. And once they're awake, it's time for airbending practice. With that over, he goes through daily errands. One can easily run into him while he's walking around the village and forest. Or he could be found at the Welcome Center where he... organizes... things and is ready to answer questions from New Feathers. And he will spend part of the day in the library seeking a new book to read. Such is the life of the Avatar. Or perhaps he could be caught while taking his sky bison out for a ride. As usual, he eats dinner at home and retires fairly early in the night. But sometime in the evening, he addresses the journals.]

Hi, everyone! It's me, Aang, again. I guess you can say I'm feeling better this month. Who would have thought Ikki'd be back so soon? And hey, is anyone else excited for autumn? That's the season for us airbenders! It's fun to watch all the leaves turn different colors, and then we can use the leaves for practice and for games! Not to mention that the air always feels just right this time of year. Does anyone else have any fun things that they like do around this time of year? And hey, let me know if you find any trees that have already changed colors!

...Oh yeah, and school should be starting sometime soon, I think! I'm real excited!

[Well obviously messiahs of their series must always meet. It must be tradition. Obviously.

Sora's still been staying at the welcome center but is probably soon moving out (obviously the KH crowd can't keep their hands off him.)

When coming inside, he see's a small boy doing...something. Curiously looking, Sora approaches the kid.]

Hey, watcha doing?

[Aang looks up nervously from the desk - where he's making various folds along some form.]

Nothing!

[Is this guy hiding something. He just smirks.]

Oh yeah? Really? Doesn't look like nothing.

[Usually, Souji isn't at the Welcome Center during the day. Working the graveyard shift and then morning training with Sokka usually has him asleep in the late morning.

Today, however, he forgot something at the Center and has come to retrieve it. He pokes his head in the door, and spots Aang at the counter.]

Oh, hello there. What are you doing?

Hi! Just some boring things. [He's flipping through the journal for news of New Feathers.] Do you need help?

Well, that isn't any good at all. Shall we play something instead to occupy your time?

[He removes his geta at the door and sets them aside, stepping up into the center barefoot. The toy he left has to be here somewhere....no idea where though. Hrm.]

Autumn? [Thinking back to his old activities during that season. Before his FATEFUL CHOICE.]

That means playing with the leaves and gathering them for yakiimo in winter for me. Unless I can bug my brother into cooking them early.

Yakiimo are baked sweet potatoes. They're very delicious and can warm you up during the colder weather!

[Because that's among Aang's thoughts as well, which his subconscious has been trying to bury under all of the positive thoughts.]

Yep! She came back just last week. People... usually don't come back this quick, do they?

Where I'm from, the skies tend to be clearer in the autumn. [Or what passes for autumn in the eternal realm.] It's a good time for stargazing.

Hm. That's something to do.

Looking at stars, huh? I guess the skies at my home are clearer, but it probably helps that I'm in the air a lot. Stars can be really, really pretty. But... it's not really the same here in Luceti.

I didn't know that leaves could change colors! Why only in autumn?

It's part of the cycle of seasons! In autumn, the leaves change color and fall from the trees. That gets the trees ready for winter!

Ahh... that's right, school starts soon here, doesn't it? Are you still planning on attending as well, Aang-kun?

Of course! I love school, and most of my friends are still there, too. What about you, Hayate? Will I be seeing you around?

[Asami did swear someday she would be up early enough to see the Firebending thing. Mostly to herself, a little to Aang. Finally, the day she accomplishes this is today... but she's also yawning and has almost nodded off despite how neat it was by the time they finished. She's not as bad as Korra, but this is really too early to be doing things.

She will catch Aang as he's, well, done.] That was really very impressive [...yawn coming. Stop the yawn stop it-

she can't. But she tries to make it lighter] I'm glad I got up for this.

[He's not sure he'll ever understand these sleepy-heads. But he doesn't mind her yawns and gives her a sheepish grin.]

Thanks, Asami. I'm really glad you enjoyed it and that you went through this trouble to watch it. I hope it wasn't a let down compared to whatever you hear from the histories.

I-Ikki is back? [The little girl, right? The one whose puzzle section he was keeping for Aang? That Ikki?]

Yeah. She came back last week. [He smiles warmly at the feed, while hiding another sadness.]

I saw that Ikki had returned, and it made me glad. She's such a bright little girl. A real solar-flare of energy.

[Luke laughs and then goes on]

I'm actually really excited for fall. I've never experienced autumn on a temperate world before, so it will be something entirely new to me.

It... it makes me glad, too! Solar means like the sun, right? I guess you're right then, because she is just like sunshine!

You haven't? I can't even imagine that! You're gonna have a good time, Luke, I'll make sure of it. Does that mean you've been here less than a year?

[ Ikki has always been a fairly early riser. She's familiar with the schedule of the house, though, so while firebending practice finishes up, Ikki eats her breakfast - a simple meal of yogurt, apple slices, and juice - and proceeds to wash up after herself. This is all done more or less quietly, although she hums, because there are certain members of the household who sleep in a lot longer.

After Petunia gets his breakfast, Ikki skips outside, and finds herself the first of the various airbending students to arrive - although since Korra and Roku are adults, she's pretty much the only one who is required to go regardless of everything else.

She managed to while away enough time that firebending is over, and Ikki smiles, spotting her grandfather seated in a familiar position. It's probably impossible to sneak up on the Avatar, but Ikki gives it a solid try, relying more on airbending than walking, and claps her hands over Aang's eyes from behind, not saying a word, because that would give her away entirely.

Then again, so would the size of her hands, and her smothered giggles. ]

[Aang was spaced out in Meditationland, but he was glad not to tell her approach. The sudden welcoming of the tiny hands was always such a heartwarming surprise. One of his fondest smiles crossed his face as he reached his arms around behind himself to capture her within a hug.]
