Book 5: Spirits of Adventure [Video/Action]

[The 14-year old monk looks into the video feed with a friendly smile during a break in the rainfall. He's standing on the lawn of House 57, and Appa is chewing down on some hay in the background.]

Hey, everyone! It's me, Aang. It's been a while since I really tried talking to everyone through the book, so I thought I'd give it another try. After all, I really like to make more friends, and it seems like something I should do more anyway now that I work at the Welcome Center! And... in case you only know me from during shifts or something, you should know that I'm not a crimefighter, a little kid or an old man, and right now I'm kinda sick of tea. I'm something that's called an Airbender and the Avatar.

I also want to introduce you to this guy, Appa. He's my sky bison. Say hello, Appa! [Aang moves to the side briefly while Appa gives a lazy bellow.] Isn't he great? So... this is what I have in mind. I wanna take Appa out more and do what I can to explore this place when I have time. And if any of you want, whether I already know you or not, you're free to join me and help me find places to explore. I think I'll do these kinds of adventures throughout the whole week, especially if the weather clears up, so if you wanna come, let me know when!

[There's some chittering noises as a lemur pops out of Aang's sleeve.] You can come too, Momo!

[So throughout the week, Aang rides Appa around the enclosure in search of secrets, adventures and such. Before he sets off, Aang stops by the fountain in the plaza with Appa to wait for any traveling companion. He also could be found running random errands at the Welcome Center.

Also, Appa may be familiar to some because of his fur. Appa arrived back in May, and especially in the time following that, he would have been shedding some fur with the coming of summer. So characters are free to have recognize that fur having been dropped throughout Luceti during his flights.]

Seven? That is a lot of friends! You must be really lucky, Mia. Or maybe you're really good at making friends, like Katara. Either way, I'm really glad that you have a bunch of friends like that.

[They were friends by necessity first.]

We needed to work together. It's hard to do that when you are at odds all the time.

[He remembers the fights that broke out when Toph first joined them, and he finds himself laughing.]

You're right about that. And if you can work past your differences, that's a good step towards becoming close friends.

It also helps to get into trouble together. I would not recommend that method though.

[Aang smiles slyly.]

I don't know, getting into trouble is really fun.

We must be thinking of different sorts of trouble.

[He takes this as invitation to launch into his own mildly related story.]

Well at Omashu they have slides going throughout the city that are controlled with earthbending. They're supposed to only be used for mail, but me and Bumi used to ride down the slides all the time. And then when I went there with Katara and Sokka not long after I first met them, I took them on the slides too, and we had lots of fun but we got in trouble too!

...But you are male. What was the problem?

[This causes an eyebrow to be raised.]

Mia, what are you talking about? Do I look like I'm just some mail?

A-Ah...well, I...if you are female then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

But... I'm not a female! I'm a man, a guy male boy! It's... the mail I meant was... the kind you send to people, I mean it really! I- I haven't been a girl in two lifetimes!

[Oh dear.]

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to upset you.

It's fine, I'm not upset. I just wanted to make it clear. It was just a word mix-up after all!

[A city that uses slides to deliver letters sounds even stranger than one with slides for people, come to think of it.]

Why do you need to send mail to someone who lives in the same town as you do?

Well it's a really big city and it's on a mountain. And it makes a good use of Earthbending.

[frost_jewel]

Is it not easier to just find the person, or deliver your message to their home yourself?

[She really doesn't get it. Even in the larger places she's been, people know where their friends live.]

[savedtheworld]

I don't really know. It's not like I ever used it for mail, and my friend in the city was always easy enough to find. But I guess city life is really busy so it makes it convenient. Like how lots of us here talk over the journals when we know where most of us live!

Oh. Yes, I do understand that. The journal is convenient especially when people are not at home and need to talk to each other, or if someone needs help.

[savedtheworld]

Yeah! It is really helpful like that, too. And it does help us to keep tabs on Ikki and Jinora, but Tenzin mostly takes care of that now.

[frost_jewel]

Tenzin? Did I meet him on Katara's birthday?

[savedtheworld]

You couldn't have. He didn't show up until a week later, and I think he's been mostly keeping to himself. I've been trying to give him try to adjust to being here with the girls. He's... he's their father, you see.

[frost_jewel]

It must be wonderful to have family here, all the same.

[It was not wonderful when Alex was here. But. He's different.]

[savedtheworld]

It is. [He did hear the rumor once, about Mia and her brother... but it's something he's trying hard not to think of.] I'm really grateful to have them around.

[frost_jewel]

[Close! Alex is her cousin.]

Well, they must be great people if they are anything like their relative.
