Book 5: Spirits of Adventure [Video/Action]

[The 14-year old monk looks into the video feed with a friendly smile during a break in the rainfall. He's standing on the lawn of House 57, and Appa is chewing down on some hay in the background.]

Hey, everyone! It's me, Aang. It's been a while since I really tried talking to everyone through the book, so I thought I'd give it another try. After all, I really like to make more friends, and it seems like something I should do more anyway now that I work at the Welcome Center! And... in case you only know me from during shifts or something, you should know that I'm not a crimefighter, a little kid or an old man, and right now I'm kinda sick of tea. I'm something that's called an Airbender and the Avatar.

I also want to introduce you to this guy, Appa. He's my sky bison. Say hello, Appa! [Aang moves to the side briefly while Appa gives a lazy bellow.] Isn't he great? So... this is what I have in mind. I wanna take Appa out more and do what I can to explore this place when I have time. And if any of you want, whether I already know you or not, you're free to join me and help me find places to explore. I think I'll do these kinds of adventures throughout the whole week, especially if the weather clears up, so if you wanna come, let me know when!

[There's some chittering noises as a lemur pops out of Aang's sleeve.] You can come too, Momo!

[Action]

[So throughout the week, Aang rides Appa around the enclosure in search of secrets, adventures and such. Before he sets off, Aang stops by the fountain in the plaza with Appa to wait for any traveling companion. He also could be found running random errands at the Welcome Center.

Also, Appa may be familiar to some because of his fur. Appa arrived back in May, and especially in the time following that, he would have been shedding some fur with the coming of summer. So characters are free to have recognize that fur having been dropped throughout Luceti during his flights.]

[He swoops down at first, but he quickly pulls them off as they ride towards the mountain. And Appa gives a bellow and flies alongside them. Aang finds himself giggling.]

[Well, since he'd grabbed her by the hand, this ends up being a bit awkward, because she needs to grab on to SOMETHING. So the choices appear to be.

A) swing around to face Aang and grip on his shoulder

B) swing above, somehow on TOP of the glider?

C) ...nothing else seems feasible, unless he shifts his grip.

So exactly how awkward is this about to be, as they zoom towards the mountain?]

[Waiting until she got an actual grip might have been the sensible thing to do, but Aang had been having too much fun being impulsive like that. There is still a solution as he remembers the way they flew back home. One handle of the glider is already free, so Aang tries to pull her up so that she could grab a handle - and he'll shift to holding her shoulder in the process, unless Spider-Katara chooses one of her awkward swinging options.

Appa possibly has a passing thought celebrating how easy he has it.]

[Don't talk about spiders, Katara has developed a well-reasoned hatred for them. 8|

But yes, move successful! Mid-air shift accomplished, handle grabbed!]

[Then it's probably for the best that Lin was never able to reveal her superhero identity to her.

He smiles once he sees that she's safely in place, but then he sees Appa give a particularly strong tail-flap to propel him forward. Aang's smile gets mischievous as he tries to increase his own speed to catch up.]

[And being the clear passenger on this particular caboose, Katara just holds on for the ride!]

[Aang and Appa wind up neck in neck as the near the landing which contains a cave opening, still some distance above it.]

Hang on tight!

[They both dive down towards the landing at the same time. Aang picks up a higher amount of speed, but he slows himself down enough to swoop into a safe landing.]

[Coming in for a landing at that speed is a LITTLE BIT SCARY, but in the end, Katara's laughing.]

That was fun!

Glad you enjoyed it! [She definitely makes a better passenger than Sokka, feelings aside. He finds himself laughing with her, and there's some second before he remembers to slide his arm off of her and to switch the glider back into staff form.

Appa grumpily stomps down a moment after they do.]

Hey, don't be mad you lost. You let us win, didn't you, buddy?

[Katara comes over to Appa and makes with the conciliatory petting.]

You're a good sport, Appa.

[savedtheworld]

[Appa gives a growl of contentment. And Aang steps forward to toss him an apple he had on his person.]

Yeah, good job. You can do whatever you want now while we're in the cave. And don't worry, buddy, I'll whistle if we need you.

[One final pat for Appa, and Katara turns to Aang.]

Ready?

Yep, I'm ready! [He looks into the cave opening.] All aboard for the Mystery Cave!

[markofthebrave]

[Katara starts walking. Pauses.]

You didn't bring a torch or anything, did you?

[Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeecause she didn't.]

[savedtheworld]

Nope! But I did bring my Firebending.

[He opens his hand and pops open a small fire.]

[markofthebrave]

[Her eyes widen a little surprised. She shouldn't be, but... she'd never seen him master it, hardly seen him practice with it. He and Zuko do it too darn early.]

Oh. Well. That's handy!

[savedtheworld]

[He's a bit surprised by her surprise until he remembers the circumstances. Sleepy head. But after what happened the very first time he tried Firebending, he's really glad that she can be impressed by it now. He starts to lead the way into the dark, dank cavern.]

It is! I bet Zuko never needs a nightlight.

[markofthebrave]

Of course not. He goes to bed while the sun's still up.

[You all are so SAD with your early bed times.]

[savedtheworld]

Hey, it's not that early. It has to be dark to sleep.

[Aang can't help it, he's a little old man.]

[markofthebrave]

I know! And yet you guys manage it anyway.

[savedtheworld]

You're just jealous cuz you don't get to see the sunrise.

[markofthebrave]

Not true! [The light from the cave's opening was fading behind them now, their only illumination for the way ahead came from the flame hovering over Aang's hand.] Sometimes I stay up late enough to see it.

[savedtheworld]

LATE enough? [He laughs towards her face, which was reflecting the flame's glow.] That's not how you're supposed to see the sunrise!

[Katara rolls her eyes.]

There are no rules for seeing the sunrise.
