Book 19: Summer Breeze

[There had been a whole mix of things the last few weeks. The return of Korra, the coming of Kai, and the news of more airbenders in Aang's future. It was a lot to reflect on and take in, on top of Zuko and Kai's fighting.

But now, he thinks it's time to try to just breathe and relax. Summer's almost over, and the pool in the backyard of House 56 has been criminally underused this year. So, a fairly chipper-looking monk shows his face on the journals.]

Hey everyone! It's me, Aang. I just thought... since it's summer and all, and it won't be too long until fall... We could all have some fun! We have a pool in our backyard, and anyone's welcome to come and play in it today! It'll be lots of fun, really!

...Oh, and if you don't know where we live, it's House number 56! Follow the road down from the plaza, and when you see a house with two floors that's a got a statue of a guy's head in front of it, you know you've found it!

[Action]

[And so Aang can be found at the pool. There's an earthbending slide that can be ridden from the second floor to the pool, as well as a trampoline set up nearby. Aang will ride the slide and often jump into the pool while using a number of tricks using his airbending and waterbending. The teenage monk can also fooling around in an octopus form.

And of course since he's wearing shorts, his tattoos and scar will be very visible.]

[ AANG DOES YOUR TATTOO GO INTO YOUR BUTT CRACK.

wait i mean. Oh look, it's Aang. Red hasn't really seen him much in a long time, but he's got training he should focus on, so... searching for the house and getting lost and giving up and deciding to talk over the journal will have to wait!

Because that didn't happen. ]

Hey Aang. I'm too busy to come over, but how've you been? Has Soren been okay? I wanted to ask you about him.

[See, Wan could have used the slide properly. For most sane people a huge slide from the second story into the pool is exciting enough. But no, that is not exciting enough for Wan. He has a new plan. An AWESOME plan that is going to be super fun and there is no way it could POSSIBLY go wrong.

He hops on the slide, and at first it may seem that he's not about to do something completely stupid. But no, making reasonable decisions is not his destiny. As soon as he starts sliding, Wan uses his firebending to basically jet propel himself into the pool. Because slides are fun, high speeds are fun, therefore nothing would be more fun than sliding at really high speeds.

Of course he doesn't have enough experience to know that at a certain point hitting water is no softer than hitting the ground. So either a waterbender is going to soften the blow for him or he is going to wake up tomorrow with some very painful bruises.

Also there will be a minor tidal wave.]

[WOW RED TOO PERSONAL also you can't see from here and also technically his shorts will cover more than what he's wearing in the drawing but yeah.

It's Red! But not the other Red who isn't this Red. Things sure are confusing now... But he's a bit solemn at the mention of Soren. It reminds him of Ikki.]

That's okay Red, we can play another time. I've been fine. And Soren - he should be fine, too. But he doesn't live here anymore. Raven's been taking care of him since Ikki left.

[ But the tattoo.

And oh, the mention of Ikki does make Red's expression lower a bit itself. ]

I remember. You said on the journal. [ Which he saw rather late... Red's voice picks back up. ] But don't you visit him? Didn't he live with you when Ikki was around?

[ ... ] Why'd he go with her, anyway?

[Well. Those sure are some questions, and not the easiest ones.]

He did live with us, of course. Ikki was his trainer after all. But I do visit him - I see him and Raven all the time. And... I guess he went with her because they were more friends. I think Raven knew the guy who had Soren before Ikki... so they had more time to become friends.

But... it's okay that way. I think they're great together, and I might not be cut out to be a Pokemon trainer anyway.

[ There's a small silence. ]

...You don't need to be a trainer to have a pokémon. [ His lips pinch hard together. This wasn't really fair, was it? ] Sorry, I didn't know Soren chose to go with her. I didn't really get to say anything before when Ikki left...

[ Ah... he shakes his head wildly. ]

I'm sorry! You're trying to have fun and I'm bringing her up. I did wanna know though... Soren was really close to her.

[Aang just gives a soft smile as he shakes his own head, slowly and sadly.]

No... It's okay, really. You're a friend of Ikki and Soren. So you got a right to know. Maybe I don't need to be a trainer, but either way... I think I'm still learning a lot about Pokemon. I don't feel ready yet, but Raven already is.

You should still say hi to Soren when you have the chance. I'm sure he'd like it. [And Ikki did seem to want Raven to have more friends.]

Mm... I can do that. Would Raven be okay with that? But I didn't get to know Soren that well... [ Or Ikki either. ]

[Hang on, he'll just put up a filter on this! Because it's odd to talk about someone directly on a public feed.]

Then you can always get to know him better! I think Raven would be fine with that. She's very quiet and sometimes she seems sad but she really is nice. I'm sure she'd appreciate having more friends too.

[ Oh, look at this guy be all thoughtful. ]

Okay, where can I find her? -- oh, but I guess I can use the journal to talk to her. [ There we go. ]

But... I think you should see Soren too, Aang. He and Ikki were together for a long time, weren't they?

You could use the journal, but you could also find her at the smithy. I think she runs it now. [And it's lost most of its workers again.]

They were together for a long time... more than a year! [And she even influenced Soren to be more peaceful with his attacks. It was touching/] And don't worry, I'm friends with Raven so I see her and Soren pretty often. But thanks for looking out with me.

[ A year was a really long time. Aang sounded pretty sure though that the pokémon was okay, but... it was odd to Red. Maybe Soren thought it was for the best, but what if there was more to it? He could try and find out. Leaving what would've been like a home so quickly for another person... ]

It's okay. [ And he brightens up his smile, if only by so much. ] By the way, have you kept your wall in tact lately?

[ He definitely wanted to check on Soren. ]

[Evan observes the strange bald kid curiously. Those tattoo's look kinda interesting, even if he has no idea why the kid has them.

Still, he has some questions, and hey the guy seems friendly enough.]

What does the season have to do with pools? And why would you ...play in a pool?

[Pools were for swimming training and survival training. They had never been very fun exercises, especially the full gear escape one.]

[Aang now feels like seeing Soren again, soon. He always was a tough bird. And Aang smiles lightly at Red again.]

Don't worry. The wall's been okay since then! Even though I hear there's another Snorlax in town. [He wonders if Red's met the other Red yet... that's a subtle way of setting that up.]

Well, it's really hot! [He raises his eyebrow to state the obvious.] So it's the best summer for a cool dip in the pool! And we play in it cuz... cuz it's fun!

It's not that hot out. [Eyebrows pull down.] Why would a cool dip feel nice? Clothes are annoying when wet.

[A skeptical eyebrow is raised.] Fun?

[It's not that Evan doesn't know how to have fun. It's more the ways he can have fun have been directed. Games of pretend he gets, and words game are a special favorite for him, but something as simple as playing in a pool just seems weird to him.]

It's hot enough! And earlier in the summer it's a lot hotter too! If clothes feel annoying, you can just take them off! I just wear shorts that feel fine in water.

[And a confused eyebrow continues to match him.]

Yeah, fun. Youuu are familiar with it. Right?

Been in hotter weather than this. [His nose scrunches in confusion.] Why would you just wear shorts? Do the shorts add to the fun or something?

[Look at all this confusion everywhere. You could fill a pool with the confusion from both kids.]

I have played games, if that is what you are saying. Never has fun included a pool. Pools are for training, and it's not fun at all.

Huh? Oh. [ Oh. There's an awkward twitch on Red's face, but he keeps the smile, sorta. ] Yeah. He's the guy you thought I was before, I guess.

Did he remember you?

[ nooo don't set anything uuuuuuppp... ]

I've seen hotter too, but that's no reason not to have fun! And shorts're... they're just comfy and easy to wear!

[Ad the confuse-a-ton continues.]

You should play games, they're fun! And... I've practiced in pools before, but that doesn't mean they can't be fun, too!

[It's already set up.]

Right! Him, yeah. He did remember me! A little.

[ Well.

Why wouldn't he show up?!

Masaomi does indeed show up, his scar (left side) and pink wings exposed for being out in his suit, and he's trying to chat people up a little or... well, sit at the edge of the pool with Linda. Both of those. Also just sort of watching and smiling ]

That's good, right? He likes to talk a lot anyway so it'd be easy to catch up.

[Not even Jinora can bring herself to stay inside and read when her grandpa invites all of Luceti to their home for playing in the pool. Rather than track water into the house after spending time in the water or even using airbending to dry off in order to use the slide, she'll just propel herself up into the air and land on the top of the slide perfectly.

If she's not in the pool then she's on the trampoline all dried off. Airbending helps get great height both for her and other people who might be jumping with her too. She's being careful so as to knock anyone off-balance or off the trampoline.]

[A minor tidal wave that Grune doesn't quite escape in time. Why yes, she had arrived in a swimsuit, but she hadn't quite been planning on getting wet just this moment.]

Wan.... [She shakes her head.

Wan may notice that her tone and demeanor are somewhat different from the last time they spoke. Someone here temporarily has her memories back, which should make this conversation interesting.]
