Book 10.5: Aang Meets the Fourth Wall

[Aang was not a happy nomad.

Actually he was feeling relatively in good spirits. His depression was curbed for the time being after drinking some unique mix of special calming teas which may or may not have somehow been spiked with just a hint of cactus juice.

It was when he was trying to meditate outside the back of House 56 when his frustrations began. There was just so much... noise. Noise, noise, noise. Like there was a party near his house. Where did all these people come from?

Eventually, Aang had enough. He rushed around to the front of the house and perched himself on the Sokka head statue to address the crowd.]

Hey! What's with all the noise?!

[The fourteen-year old monk clears his throat.]

Sorry. I mean.. Can you keep it down a little?

[He slides down from the statue to address the newcomer with his own sheepishness.]

It's no problem. I shouldn't have lost my temper.

It kind of is. This village is usually a lot more quiet.

[The Doctor shrugs at the boy.]

It's alright young man. I don't mind.

You live here, I take it? It didn't feel like a busy place. Well, that was what it looked like at first, but guess that's changed, yea?

Yeah, today seems really weird. And I live here right now, but I don't live live here. Everyone here's kind of stuck.

Right, someone who...knows me from before, or...later...or something sort of explained that bit to me earlier.

[It's...timey-wimey problems]

So you're stuck here too, eh?

Oh, okay. And... yeah. I've been here for almost a year now. Wow... I guess time really flies.

Actually it sort of...rolls. Doesn't really fly much. Not much for it to fly on is there?

I- I don't know, I never really thought a lot about it. I just know that however time goes, it's kinda... really fast. Except when it's not.

Oh it'll do that, for sure. Time's got a mind of it's own. Goes it's own way. Does what it wants.

Unless your a Time Lord, anyway.

Well I'm just an Avatar. I didn't know it was possible to be a lord of time.

[lonelygod]

Dominus Temporis. Time Lords. Name of my people. Gallifreyans.

But I've never heard of an Avatar before. What's that, exactly?

Y-you are? That's gotta be pretty neat.

Oh, an Avatar? In my world... the Avatar's the only one who can bend all four elements. I'm supposed to use my powers to keep peace and balance in the world, and I'm also a bridge to the Spirit World.

[lonelygod]

Yea. It is really. Pretty brilliant, actually.

[He shrugs and turns his attention to the thought of Bending?]

And how does one...Bend the elements? I take it that you mean Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. The Greek ones, not the ones from Asia, because there are five of those. And Spirit World, hmm? That sounds pretty exciting.

Right - the first ones! Those're my elements. And I can bend 'em like this, see?

[And he makes some firm, earth bendery posture and stomps forward, making a small stone pillar rise from the ground to the side of them.]

Brilliant!

[He takes a step back and grins. REALLY impressed. Really really impressed. Because that's just neat!]
