CANON

"Why would I choose cosmic energy over Katara? How could it be a bad thing that I feel an attachment to her? Three chakras ago, that was a good thing!"

Aang has been more or less smitten with Katara since he first met her and considers her to be his forever girl. She's the closest person to him and is always the most understanding and caring of his friends, even if it gets to the point of overprotectiveness. Her faith helped to drive him to truly become the Avatar and save the world. Aang came from a time where he and Katara were a couple, but in Luceti Katara came from a time before she even knew of his feelings. They've had to confront this factor along with other unexpected revelations of their future. Through this all they have re-established their closeness and made difficult decisions for the responsibility of protecting their grandchildren. Aang still holds his flame for her, but he's been forced to face the fact that they'll have to forge something new for themselves in this world.

"I gotta say, Sokka, you continue to impress me with your ideas."

Sokka has been Aang's best friend back home, and he considers him to be like his brother. He's pretty funny and smart. Aang finds his logic to be very helpful whenever he chooses to deploy it. They're still buds here in Luceti, but Sokka's time apart from Aang has put a wedge in their friendship. The unspoken core of their problems lies in Sokka having accepted and wanting to hold onto his life in Luceti, while Aang is intent on making sure everyone arrives home safely. Sokka has still remained a dependable friend in a pinch and has helped Aang a lot in adjusting to his Luceti lifestyle. And Aang is still as intent as finding any way to comfort Sokka when he's troubled, even if it's harder in this place.

"Do you really think friendships can last more than one lifetime?" "I don't see why not."

Toph is the toughest and manliest person whom Aang ever has and ever will know. During the war, he convinced her to come with them in order to tutor him in Earthbending. Toph's rough and independent nature caused their friendship to start off on a rocky road, but Aang knows he can always count on Toph. In Luceti, there's also a special dimension to their bond in that she's the only person so far who's from the same time as him. They've been steadily becoming even better friends, to the point where Toph has started to teach Aang metalbending, but there have also been rifts between them coming from Aang believing himself to be too weak for Toph to believe in him anymore.

"And I also think it was about friendships."

One of Aang's most unique Luceti friendships. Aang had known Roku as an old and wizened spiritual adviser, who often carried uneasy truths. Here in Luceti, Aang has met the teen version of Roku who is still learning the different elements. The two have become fast friends, to the point where they bunk together in a room. Aang is doing his best to support Roku in his studies of bending while trying to sidestep the awkwardness and tension which comes from knowing Roku's life story.

"But you called me here."

With all the strangeness in Luceti, he never expected to meet her. Korra is Aang's next life, his next reincarnation. Meeting her has been somewhat alarming and a reminder of his own mortality, but at the same time he's made quick friends with her and is proud of what she's done so far - except that she hasn't lived it, yet. Aang's taken over the task of mentoring Korra in Airbending with Tenzin's absence and believes that he can help her break through her blocks on Airbending and her spiritual side. He admires her strength, even if he's gotten some hint of the anxieties beneath.

Ikki is a ray of sunshine who came from the future to let everyone know how awesome she is. She was the first person from Korra's time to arrive in Luceti and it was through her that they first learned many truths about the future, about Aang and Katara's future family and the new air nomads. Aang has mostly been overjoyed by this news and quickly came to love Ikki, but it came with the bittersweetness of knowing he wouldn't be alive when she was born. They spent much time together playing, performing mischief and airbending, and Aang learned how to assume a somewhat parental role at the same time. He was heartbroken when she was initially sent home, but now he is now overjoyed to have her back and ready to treasure every moment.

Bolin is a friend of Korra's. Aang was the first person to meet him when he arrived, and the two got along swimmingly. He enjoys the humorous Earthbender's company as well as his Fire Ferret Pabu, whom he has set up to befriend Momo.

Asami Sato is a kind woman from Aang's future and a friend of his next life. Aang's pleased to meet her and finds it refreshing to be friends with a normal citizen from his world who isn't really connected with him or the Gaang in any familial way. They've bonded over talking about the sport of the future, Probending, and eating ice cream.

Tahno is another, considerably less polite non-bender from the future. Specifically, a waterbender who had his bending taken by Amon. Despite his rudeness, Aang can't help but pity and feel guilty for him because a bad attitude is no reason for someone to lose their bending. It's a perversion of his reasoning in dealing with Ozai and he can't help but feel responsible for not being able to give him back his bending.

LUCETI

Their first meeting was under unusual circumstances; Aang was temporarily switched with his future self, while Lupin was shifted to a female version of his self from another universe. But once things were back to normal, although Aang had no memory of this meeting, he had earned Lupin's friendship and the right to call him by the nickname of Red. They've been friendly since, and he's come to admire Lupin's skills while so far being oblivious to his hidden troubles.

Buffy was one of the early people to greet Aang to Luceti, and she was already good friends with Katara and Sokka. It did take them some time before they bonded over the similar responsibilities of the Slayer and the Avatar - how they both suffered from the pressure put upon them but were able to endeavor through their friends. He did have trouble helping her with her self esteem and hopes she can feel better about herself.
BUFFY SUMMERS

A friend of Katara and Sokka's whom Aang eventually played the game of "compare our worlds with". He's a nice guy who kinda reminds Aang of Sokka with his dedication to science, and he has a nifty mechanical arm.

Elicia is a seven-year old girl whom Aang was initially amused by when she addressed the journals with her superhero name of Sailor Lion. Gold's a Pokemon Trainer who seems nice, but Aang's impression of him has been colored by some unfortunate events. Seeing him use an electric attack on Silver and his Pokemon has traumatized Aang due to his past with lightning, and he kinda fears that Gold might actually be horrible. But he still hopes to give him a chance.

Haruhi initially spoke with Aang at the cultural fair, where he told her the history of Avatar Kyoshi while he was dressed as her. She's seemed interesting and perceptive to Aang, but he still does not know her very well. But he did eventually figure out that she was the girl whom Winry was breaking up with. He's been guilty ever since she was one of the people he confronted when in the Avatar State on the moon.

HINATA HYUUGA

This eccentric pirate captain has made an odd friend for the air nomad. Despite Jack's weirdness, Aang considers him to be funny and unironically enjoys his friendship. Aang's trusting nature also causes him to be oblivious to Jack's ulterior motives despite his being a pirate.

Aang has been fascinated by The Force and by the Jedi's similarities to both the Avatar and the Air Nomads, and and he sees Like as a respectable authority. Luke is also the one who suggested that the air nomads could be reborn just like the Jedi were for him, something which Aang has since discovered he will accomplish in the future.

They're a pair who look like they'd get along well due to their outwardly jovial natures and often bad jokes, and for the most part Masaomi and Aang due. But on the inside, they have conflicting ideals which have sometimes manifested as tension between the two. This tension also involves the fact that both of them are in love with Katara. Aang has mostly seen the surface of Masaomi in the first few months; he has slowly been experiencing the depths of his personality and learning more about his feelings for Katara. Despite this uneasy revelations and seeing Masaomi's scarier side, Aang still sees him as a friend. He also adores Masaomi's Pichu/Pikachu, Linda.

He has also met her during his time as Robin and as his older self, but those encounters go primarily forgotten by Aang.
MORO
[personal profile] biteoffherhead

Nami was one of Katara's friends from the Straw Hat Pirates whom Aang was initially recommended to meet in order to see if he could use his staff to fight like a bo staff. This was no longer as much of an issue when they finally met, with Aang having picked up tonfas, with Aang becoming fast friends with Nami and helping to save her orchard following the hurricane. It probably helps that Aang's as goofy as most of Nami's crewmates.

Despite Robin's initial anger, the two have had a warm friendship since then, an echo of the time when they were brothers. Although Aang has lost most memories of his other life, he remembers more about Robin's life than most, including his secret identity of Dick Grayson.
