Book 5: Spirits of Adventure [Video/Action]

[The 14-year old monk looks into the video feed with a friendly smile during a break in the rainfall. He's standing on the lawn of House 57, and Appa is chewing down on some hay in the background.]

Hey, everyone! It's me, Aang. It's been a while since I really tried talking to everyone through the book, so I thought I'd give it another try. After all, I really like to make more friends, and it seems like something I should do more anyway now that I work at the Welcome Center! And... in case you only know me from during shifts or something, you should know that I'm not a crimefighter, a little kid or an old man, and right now I'm kinda sick of tea. I'm something that's called an Airbender and the Avatar.

I also want to introduce you to this guy, Appa. He's my sky bison. Say hello, Appa! [Aang moves to the side briefly while Appa gives a lazy bellow.] Isn't he great? So... this is what I have in mind. I wanna take Appa out more and do what I can to explore this place when I have time. And if any of you want, whether I already know you or not, you're free to join me and help me find places to explore. I think I'll do these kinds of adventures throughout the whole week, especially if the weather clears up, so if you wanna come, let me know when!

[There's some chittering noises as a lemur pops out of Aang's sleeve.] You can come too, Momo!

[So throughout the week, Aang rides Appa around the enclosure in search of secrets, adventures and such. Before he sets off, Aang stops by the fountain in the plaza with Appa to wait for any traveling companion. He also could be found running random errands at the Welcome Center.

Also, Appa may be familiar to some because of his fur. Appa arrived back in May, and especially in the time following that, he would have been shedding some fur with the coming of summer. So characters are free to have recognize that fur having been dropped throughout Luceti during his flights.]

It really is. I wouldn't have been able to do any of the great things I did back home without them. And I don't think be able to hold onto myself here if most of my friends weren't already here. ...But with the friends I've been making here already, maybe I would've been okay. Do you have friends like that too, Mia?

[Rydia laughs and whoops, thoroughly enjoying the unique view Appa's giving her. Who can have a bad day over the ocean like this? Not her, that's for certain.]

That's definitely a good point. I wouldn't mind badger moles, though. I'm sure they'd be easier to get along with now that we know Toph. We'd just haven to act like her.

Yeah, when Vivi-chan brought her over for cake!

[Pointing at the screen incredulously] You're her grandfather?

No worries, I got this! [You don't mind a bit of fur-pulling, right Appa? Because Gold is grabbing clumps to scale your large body.]

I thought she mentioned it was you who treated them! [He likes to keep up to date on her wellbeing - although at this point in time Tenzin has primarily taken over that spot.]

And... yeah, I am. Well, I will be. In the future, back home. She's an airbender like me, and her older sister Jinora's here too. I figured everyone in Luceti knew by now, she posted drawings of her family and everything the day after she got here.

I dunno, I'd like to think I've got some pretty good hearin'. Maybe I gotta put my ear right next to 'em?

That could work. Maybe we could just put a whole bunch of them in our ears!

[It only irritates Appa a little; it's something he's gotten used to from all different kinds of people scaling him over the years. But Aang is still upset.]

I'm... not sure we could pull that off.

You're right. Maybe we'd need to take some of her manliness lessons first.

Must've slipped past me. [And Sanji somehow doubts the drawing would be accurate, even if Ikki is as cute as a button]

But that's gotta be plenty weird for you.

It is. Usually, the person who receives the beast becomes unpopular in the village because people just see that they're carrying a deadly, destructive monster in it. As a result, they're shunned and usually not allowed out of the village. Additionally, organizations chase them down in hopes to extract their power, which would kill the host. This has been changing recently, as we're all fighting a war meant to save the two tailed beasts we have left. [ She sighs. ] We were just a little late arriving to that revelation.

Oh... how long was that, again? At least a lifetime, right?

[He keeps a tight hold. Linda does too, but she sways some. Weird, more unstable than expected]

Oh yes. Seven of them. They are very important to me and I don't think we could have done all we did without each other, either.

One hundred years. [He flinches inwardly at specifically hearing "a lifetime".] I didn't even know the difference at first.

I get that a lot. It is pretty weird to suddenly have family like this, and she's not that much younger than me. But I don't really think about weirdness much, because she's really fun to be around, and I'm glad I get to meet her here.

That sounds... horrible. But it's... I guess it's good that your world is learning its lesson. You should see people as people before seeing them as beasts or power.

Seven? That is a lot of friends! You must be really lucky, Mia. Or maybe you're really good at making friends, like Katara. Either way, I'm really glad that you have a bunch of friends like that.

[He takes a moment to look back from the ocean.]

Is he a friend of yours?

[And Appa gets lower, soon skimming his feet along the top of the water and being delightfully relaxed by its temperature.]
